CMB Airport to Kandy — Private Transfer, 3–3.5 Hours
Kandy, the hill-capital and Temple of the Tooth, sits about 115 km from Bandaranaike Airport. This is one of Sri Lanka's most-booked airport routes — and one of the ones where a pre-booked private chauffeur matters most: a long drive after a long flight, in an air-conditioned car, with luggage, child seats and a price that's already paid.
Quick answer: Kandy is ~115 km from CMB Airport — 3–3.5 hrs by road. Our Economy sedan runs ~$65 all-in against the official airport tariff of LKR 21,384 (≈$65); fixed, flight-tracked, VAT, tolls and a 60-minute wait included.

The route, honestly described
The drive has two personalities. First half: expressway and flat mid-country roads — easy, fast, nap-friendly. Second half: the climb into the hill country is genuinely winding, with tea-hedge hairpins and mist in the wet season. Our chauffeurs drive it daily and take it smoothly; if you're prone to motion sickness, sit in the front and ask for a tea-shop break around the halfway point — it's part of the fun.

Three ways to run the arrival day
- Straight to Kandy — arrive, check in, evening walk around the lake; temple the next morning.
- Via Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage — the classic first-day stop. Aim for the 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 2:00–4:00 p.m. river bathing at the Maha Oya — the afternoon session is the realistic one after a morning flight — or the 9:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. milk feedings; your chauffeur times the route around your landing so you hit one.
- Via Dambulla or Sigiriya — for travellers heading deeper into the Cultural Triangle; we can drop you at Sigiriya instead of Kandy on the same booking.
What to know before you go up-country
- Climate shift: Kandy sits ~500 m inland and runs 6–10°C cooler than the coast, with evening mist in the wet season — pack a light layer.
- Temple dress code: shoulders and knees covered at the Temple of the Tooth; sarongs are sold at the gate but a scarf in your day bag is smarter.
- Perahera season (late July–August): the city centre closes on procession nights and hotels fill — tell us your hotel and we plan the drop-off around the closures.
- Old-town lanes: several heritage hotels sit on lanes too narrow for vans; our chauffeurs know which approach works for your vehicle class.
What's included on this long drive
- Meet-and-greet with name board in arrivals; 60 minutes free waiting from actual landing, with live flight tracking.
- Rest stops whenever you want — tea shops and clean facilities along the route; extra tourist stops $10 each.
- English-speaking chauffeur who knows the hill roads; bottled water and chargers on board.
- Child and booster seats ($5) fitted before pickup on request.
- Voucher with driver details 6 hours before, WhatsApp contact on the day, free cancellation up to 24 hours.
Kandy → CMB (airport drop-offs)
The return run is the same fixed price. For an international flight we recommend leaving Kandy 5 hours before departure (3.5 h drive + 1.5 h buffer for traffic and check-in queues); for early-morning flights we'll confirm the pickup time with you on WhatsApp the evening before.
